ABOUT
SYRIA

Syria is strategically located in the Middle East, at the crossroads of historic trade routes. With a population of approximately 22 million and a land area of 185,000 km², it remains one of the region’s significant markets. The country shares borders with Iraq to the east, Turkey to the north, Jordan to the south, and Lebanon and Israel to the west, while its Mediterranean coastline provides a crucial advantage for maritime trade.

Despite the severe economic impact of the conflict that began in 2011, Syria is undergoing a reconstruction phase, with growing trade activities and regional economic reintegration. Key sectors such as construction, furniture, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing hold strong growth potential. Syria’s major trading partners include Turkey, China, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran, and as infrastructure projects expand and regional collaborations strengthen, the country is expected to play an increasingly important role in global trade.

Economic relations with Syria’s neighboring countries are gradually recovering. Trade with Turkey is growing, particularly in food, textiles, and construction materials, while logistics and energy projects with Iraq and Jordan are gaining momentum. Strengthened trade with Lebanon, Egypt, and Gulf nations positions Syria as a regional trade hub. Future economic goals include enhancing trade networks, increasing industrial production capacity, and further integrating into regional trade systems.

In this context, Syria presents promising investment opportunities for companies looking to establish an early foothold in this emerging market.
